So. Writer/director Hilde Brinchmann calls me one day and says: "Hi Eirik, how about writing the score for NARNIA, yes? No pressure!" Hilde has written a NEW stage adaption of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". This is huge, on a global scale. It is the first time the C.S. Lewis Company approves a new theatre script of Narnia in 40 YEARS. As it seems, you kind of have to be Hilde Brinchmann to achieve something like that.
So now a lot of my time is spent making the original music for the first brand new stage adaption of NARNIA in 40 years. No pressure and all that. But I've already been working on the project for a while, and I just have to admit that as of today, it feels like some of my best work. And that's a good thing – it would be a bit of a downer to make the music for Narnia, and then it turned out shit. You'd rather want to avoid that.
The Dream Team is back: Signe Gerda Landfald's epic set design, Helena Andersson's incomparable costume and mask design, Morten Haug Serigstad's magical sound design, and Hilde Brinchmann's almost unjustifiably smart direction and script. Me, I'm scribbling away on a massive fairytale score that will eventually be recorded in the studio with some fantastic musicians, including the Trondheim Soloists.
Premiere on March 6, 2025. Touring Norway with Riksteatret (The Norwegian Touring Theatre) in 2025, after which the project will move to Den Nationale Scene in Bergen in 2026. Until then: May Aslan be with me. 🦁🎭🎶
